Your First Appointment

What happens during your consultation with Dr David Ma — and how to make the most of your visit.

How to book

You can book a consultation by calling Dr Ma's rooms directly on (02) 8112 8569 or emailing admin@drdavidma.com. A GP referral is recommended to access Medicare rebates but is not required. Please have any relevant imaging or previous specialist letters available when you call.

Dr Ma consults at two Sydney locations: Chatswood (North Shore) and Strathfield (Inner West). Please indicate which location is most convenient when booking.

What to bring to your appointment

  • GP referral letter (recommended for Medicare rebate)
  • Medicare card and private health insurance details
  • All relevant imaging — X-rays, MRI, CT, or ultrasound (on disc or printed)
  • A list of your current medications including supplements and blood thinners
  • Previous specialist letters or surgical records related to your problem
  • A note of when symptoms started, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect your daily life
  • A support person if you would like one — you are welcome to bring someone

What Dr Ma will assess

Dr Ma will take a thorough history of your symptoms and perform a focused clinical examination of your hand and wrist. This includes range of motion, grip strength, sensation testing, tendon function, and nerve assessment. Specific clinical tests are performed to reach a diagnosis.

You will be asked about the nature of your problem, what activities aggravate it, how it has changed over time, and how it affects your work and daily life. Please mention anything that concerns you — there are no irrelevant questions.
